Acidity

conditions of the stomach acidity or hyperacidity is a common problem. Ask the person sitting next to you on a bus if he had experienced episodes of acid attack. The chances are high that he or she will reply with a big YES. Why is this so?

Our stomach produces acid to digest the food we eat. This is a normal and natural. Every time we eat, the cells that line the stomach pump acid to liquefy the sumptuous dinner, with mashed potatoes in the dish for steak.

Problem occurs when these cells produce large amounts of acid, rather than your stomach needs. When this happens, you suffer from heartburn. You should know if you suffer from heartburn if you feel a burning sensation just above the stomach, or just below (the hollow part) your breastbone. This is the most classic sign of acidity. Other people experience acid regurgitation. This happens when you lie in bed horizontal. You may have a bitter taste in the mouth, which resembles the flavor of orange puree that had lost its effectiveness. acid regurgitation often results in heartburn, or pain around the heart area.

Causes of Hyperacidity

Most of the time, the acidity is not caused by serious illness. Person experiences attacks of acidity a few times a year, or sometimes even just once a year. Usually triggered by sudden changes in acidity of the foods you eat. Fatty and spicy foods are harder to digest than most of the food, which actually stimulate the cells to pump acid to produce more acid than is necessary.

Sudden onset of stomach acid is also known as acute stomach acidity attack. This can easily be corrected by the support-the-counter (OTC) antacids to relieve stomach pain.

However, there are persistent acidic conditions. This condition is known as chronic heartburn. Stress and the underlying disease often causes chronic heartburn.

Diseases the May Cause Hyperacidity

GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)

GERD is a chronic disease that causes people with stomach acid. This is called a reflux because gastric acid goes from the stomach into the esophagus when a person with stomach acidity lies down in bed. Sometimes makes even a simple change of attitude to reflux of stomach acid. This disease is known by many as heartburn. A person with GERD feels like a stabbing pain near his heart area.

Heartburn is not a disease. The condition is called as such because the pain seems to come from the heart. Heartburn occurs when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus. The acid gives a burning sensation in the lining of the esophagus and the region (which includes the area near the heart).
